Van Buuren Museum & Gardens
The exhibition "Territoires intérieurs" places the works of Gustave van de Woestyne and Anto Carte in dialogue, two artists who left a lasting mark on Belgian painting of the early twentieth century without ever quite occupying the place they deserve in collective memory. Van de Woestyne, a central figure of Flemish Symbolism, and Carte, an Expressionist rooted in the rural world of Wallonia, share a common sensibility: a fascination with the land, with the simple gestures of everyday life, with light falling across a silent landscape. Their works, brought into dialogue in the intimate rooms of the Musée & Jardins van Buuren, reveal a similar quest, that of an inner space, a quiet spirituality that surfaces in every composition.
