Purification, a double projection created for Peter Sellars' staging of Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde in 2005, offers a perfect synthesis of all these elements. With extreme slowed-down movements, a couple performs a purification ritual, which evokes a rebirth. As the artist described it himself: "From the very beginning, I did not intend to create images but to look for the origin of things, people and situations. So I started to write down what I had in mind, and then it became quite simple to move forward. I plunged deeper and deeper into the booklet, which resulted in all these images.” With the support of blackflag
