A deserted factory, a name and a suitcase filled with old things. Messaline Raverdy offers a poetic account from her personal experiences when she went to live in her grandmother’s house as a young filmmaker and student. Through a range of diverse images, archived documents and ingenious juggling with language, Derrière les volets ponders oblivion and the invisible. At the same time, Raverdy’s film debut is a reverie about the transformation of the female body, and about the strange fabric of time. Raverdy has studied philosophy, literature and plastic arts in Paris and Brussels. Her unpretentious ‘first person cinema’ fuses several image sources – video, 16mm, Super8 – with social themes.
