Born in 1997 in Sichuan, China, Mao WU currently lives in Brussels. After studying at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and at Nantes Fine Arts School, he completed a specialised Master’s degree at Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels in 2023. Today, he pursues his training at the same school, intending to gain an advanced master’s degree. In his practice, Mao WU uses news photographs, existing artworks, and video sequences as visual materials. Unwilling to confine himself to a particular pictorial style, he tackles style as a game, weaving together and integrating art history, popular culture, and amateurism.
